Halloween 2008

Happy Halloween!

Many of our holidays begin with a box from Nana & Poppy. They pick the best stuff. Candy, t-shirts, toys . . .

Kate is still recovering from her tonsillectomy.
So she opened her box before big sister got home.

Kate: "Ooooh, what's in here."
Laurel: "I smell chocolate!! There's chocolate in here!"

I love my new shirt.
Now I'll open the card.

Thank you Nana & Poppy!

Home from school and dressed for 50's day
Sarah is ready to open her
goodies from Nana & Poppy

She opens the card first.

Then the package.
Thank you Nana & Poppy!

Happy Halloween Morning 2008.
Sarah is dressed as St. Seriphina
(at Catholic school first graders
dress as saints on Halloween)
Kate is Cleopatra.

All Saints Day Mass (celebrated on the 31st this year) is a big deal at St. Patrick School. All the first graders give speeches about their saints. Sarah rocked! No kidding, seven parents and the principal came up to me and said she has a future in stage. Go Sarah!!

She does love to be on stage.

After school we went to see dad
and trick or treat at his office.
Daddy is Jimmy Hendrix.

That night we went trick or treating
with all the neighbors.

What a great day!
Happy Halloween!

Buddy Bunny and The Tonsilectomy

Kate has gi-normous tonsils. The poor little girl sounds like a growling bear when she sleeps so we're off to get those darn tonsils out.

Supermom took a tip from Supergrandma and Supergrandpa and took Kate to get a toy before her surgery. Kate chose to make an animal at Teddy Set Go. Hello Buddy Bunny!

Please make him soft so I can hug him.

Just a smidge more . . . I can do it.

He needs the perfect heart . . .

Big sister made a kitty.

Surgery day: here are Kate and Buddy
both dressed for their tonsilectomies.

Here they are with Stacy, Kate's patient advocate.
She gave Kate a tour of the surgery center the week before
and she fell in love with our little diva.
Her job is to make the experience fun for the kids.
She gave Kate lacing beads, movies to watch,
Popsicles, toys, books . . .
Geez, I want to have my tonsils out again
just to hang out with Stacy.

No more tonsils.
Hey, I can breath!

Big sister helped take good care of little Kate.

Laurel had empathy.

It took a few weeks to get back to normal.
We had a few impromptu naps along the way.

Kate's Halloween Party

We love Halloween in Schultzville. This year Sarah had a whole week of festivities at school so Kate had her own Halloween party with her friends. She had bubbles, dancing, loads of goodies, a scavenger hunt and a pinata. Big fun when you're four!

Happy Halloween!

Kate's First Day of Gymnastics

Poor little Kat. She could hardly wait for gymnastics to start. Then on the first day she found out that she had to wait a whole extra month to start gymnastics so that her sweet little arm could heal completely. When we showed up for her first class in September she was sent home. Being only four I was worried that Kate would cry and maybe even have a fit. She didn't - she teared up a bit and said "I'm so disappointed mom!!" I was so proud of her. Being Supermom, I tried to make the wait somewhat fun for her by helping her find the perfect body suit and making her regular class time on Tuesdays fun by doing another activity.
But alas could replace her first day of class. She was ready to go at 7:30 this morning - even though class wasn't until 9:30.
Here she is out front.
Saying "Hurry up mom. I want to go in!!"

No time to pose for a picture mom.
I need to get in and warm up.

Okay I'll smile really fast since the door isn't
open yet. Snap the picture now okay?
Her first class was great. She enjoyed the Koala and the bars.
Kate can already do a beautiful cartwheel and handstand. Go girl!!
P.S. I have recently learned that Sarah and Kate will no longer pose for photos when it comes to activities they enjoy. Notice that I have very few pics of Sarah at soccer and none from gymnastics. I was only able to catch a few shots of Kate today - and that's only because she's four and still somewhat compliant . . .

Ackerman Farms

Roadtrip!!!

Today Kate's preschool class took a trip to Ackerman Farms. This is a real farm that grows thousands of pumpkins for Libby - you know, the pumpkin pie filling people. They have hundreds of varieties of pumpkins and gourds - from all seven continents. (Go Supermom - I was paying attention when Farmer John was giving the tour.)
We saw normal pumpkins, pie pumpkins (yep there's a difference,) fairy tale pumpkins, snake gourds, birdhouse gourds . . . the list goes on and on.

Here are Kate and her buddy Payne.

That guy bent over on the right is Farmer John.
He's showing the class all the kinds of pumpkins.

See the little guy in blue behind Kate. That is Thatcher. He has a crush on our little princess. When we arrived at the farm Thatcher ran up, grabbed Kate, dipped her back in his arms and planted a big kiss on her. A few weeks ago, Kate's teacher came to the car and said "just in case Kate says something, one of our little guys asked her for a kiss today . . . " I said OH, was it Thatcher ( having been warned by Kate that he had a crush on her.) Mrs. Iverson nodded and said "you should be proud of Kate though, she replied What are you crazy? We can't kiss until college - or at least highschool!!!"
Oh that Thatch - what a cutie. He stuck by Kate most of the day. Can you really blame him? Kate is adorable!! (I'm not biased)

Check out this sign.
Oh Sh!t, where is my kid.

Oh there she is.
Oh no, are they giving her a goat?

This is a wild turkey.
As opposed to a Thanksgiving turkey.
They are completely different.
Who knew?

Here is Kate's class in front of the farm.
What a fun day!
Sarah's class had come to the same farm the day before. I wasn't able to go because I haven't taken the class required by the catholics before I'm allow to volunteer. I brought both girls back to the farm on Thursday to pick out pumpkins for our yard. I'll post some pics soon.
